Do Not Underestimate Airsoft Guns As Weapons

by Anthony Carter

Can you distinguish between a real gun and a toy version when they are lying on a table before you, when a toy gun is made to look exactly like the lethal weapon next to it? You may be able to have a second look, even pick them up to try and find the real weapon, but when you are crouched down fearing for your life with gun welding criminals shouting – how do you choose the airsoft guns then?

What was once a toy with no killing powers on the table; has become a life threat in the hands of criminals. So if ever you find yourself with a gun pointed at you – never assume that it may be a toy. Always take guns seriously.

Originally the airsoft gun came on the market as toys that were used either as novelties or later on when they saw a whole sport evolve round them. Serious airsoft games were developed by adrenalin junkies who thought games of shooting at people in real life situations was fun.

Soon the demand from gamers became bigger and they demanded stronger weapons to give them the advantage over their opponents. The guns that used a humble spring as firing mechanism simply would not do anymore.

In an effort to mimic the explosiveness of gun powder, manufacturers started installing gas chambers in the pistols. These pushed the bullet out at very realistic speeds, adding to the thrills of the gamers. Airsoft guns took a step closer to being real weapons.

Later models saw the air being rejected for even more potentially strong inert gasses like propane. When propane expands, it delivers a massive pressure and this aspect has seen it ending up as part of airsoft weapons till today. The fact that expanded propane smells just like gun powder after firing has made shooters drool with pleasure.

Still not getting what they wanted from these guns, the users demanded smoke to seep from the fired barrel, and again the manufacturers responded by adding special smoke caps that produce white smoke after firing.

In a bizarre race to bring airsoft guns as close as possible to real weapons, the manufacturers are producing more and more lethal weapons even as we speak. Ironically Japan, one of the major exporters of airsoft weapons, slapped serious laws onto the possession and or firing of these mock weapons. They realized all the potential problems these weapons bring about. They never stopped making or sending them to stores all over the world however. This issue does however lay with the country receiving these toys.

Should you buy one of these weapons, there are a couple of things you should know and keep in mind, especially if you have bought it for a child. Fired from close range, the bullets coming from these guns can penetrate skin and will definitely blind someone if the bullet enters the eye. These guns are not toys anymore and should be used under strict supervision only.

When used properly you can actually have hours and hours of fun playing with airsoft guns. There seems to be a thrill in pulling the trigger pretending to kill another human being. For those who enjoy these thrills, this is the only matter of concern as they see these weapons as totally innocent.
