San Francisco Giants vs. Pirates at Candlestick Park

Candlestick Park wasn’t such a bad place to see a baseball game – during the day that is. The winds didn’t tend to kick up until late in the afternoon, so before that happened you could watch the Giants under a warm sunny sky, take off your shirt and have a cold beer. This video was made on August 23, 1992. The Giants were going nowhere that year in the National League West, but we all worried that they were going to Tampa Bay at the end of the year. It looked like the end of the line for …

  1. i hate sbc park, its not the same as the stick :( I remember the venders selling sodas, and hotdogs, now u have to wait in line :( times have changed

  2. Well thank God, for now she’s the only one in sports

  3. No. Any politically-correct direction is a BAD direction.

  4. Good man. I bet most of your fellow Giants fans agree with you too. And yet the retain her

Nope, I find women PA announcers to be annoying and non-traditional.

  6. Pity, sounds like he was good at it(calling Giants games). Do you like the direction the Giants took after with Sherry Davis?

His name was Jeffery Bonds. He supposedly tried to arrange “dates” with 15 year old girls in 1992, and was fired around the time this video was made.

  8. I miss the Stick! No yuppies! Yay!

  9. What was his name? I’m a Yankees fan, so obviously I’m a big Bob Sheppard fan, but this guy ain’t half bad, plus I totally disagree with having a female PA Announcer

  10. If I remember correctly that PA announcer was fired for some sort of sexual misconduct… I remember as I use to impersonate him…”Now batting, number 22, Willlllll Clark.” Guy was great… hated it when he left… the next year he was replaced by Sherry Davis… Giants have had a female PA voice ever since.

  11. nice shots of the family pavillion area. I still remember that they wouldn’t allow you to bring in any beer to that section.

  12. i gave my first AND second born for yankee bleachers!

  13. its still a mess for the NFL, Dallas is the East? Indianapolis is the South? I doubt it will change though, due to rivalries.

  14. Yep! They put Atlanta in the Western Division of the National League. And the Chicago Cubs were in the Eastern Division of the National League, while the Chicago White Sox were in the Western Division of the American League. It all makes perfect sense, right? Yikes!

  15. wait the braves were in the giants division then?

What makes you think people didn’t get tickets through their jobs before the new stadium was built?

  17. Don’t forget Bruce MacGowan heard after Giant games on KNBR before he was let go. Where is Bruce now?

  18. im with u in that people need to appreciate the game that is being played more than the ballpark…but how does the quality of the stadium determine how people appreciate the game..,if anything it enhances the appreciation and invites new fans to enjoy it…stop acting like a fucking elitist

  19. no…been a Giants fan for years and been to many games at candlestick and AT&T…why do u care that i happen to like the new ballpark? are you some kind of ballpark connoisseur?

  20. My home away from home, growing up on the Peninsula. The fanfares that played when the Giants scored a run… Jeff Bonds (who’s now a radio program director) manning the PA like a pro… hilarious recordings out of John Hall’s music library… Harry Stevens vendors, the Hawk like clockwork at 3 PM, garlic fries and a polish sausage you didn’t have to wait in line for. Good times all the way around.

  21. I miss Candlestick….It only cost $15 to sit behind home plate. Now it costs an arm and a leg!!!!

  22. I Loved Candlestick too. I used to go to the Giants Games when they played there. At least I still go to candlestick for the 49ERS games. But since now the 49ERS talk about having a new stadium, I think they should tear down candlestick and build the new stadium in the same spot. Plus it’s right by the water. But they also need to fix the roadways too because of heavy traffic, Which I think they should do all that because it’s the perfect area for a football stadium.

  23. I loved Candlestick Park. Tons of memories.

  24. Damn, I miss candlestick! It was nice and simple, like ryan9942 said, where you go to just watch the game and not do some other gimmicky yuppie shit. If you can’t handle the Candlestick wind, you’re probably from LA. AT&T is beautiful, but half the fans are people who moved here from other parts of the country and got their tickets through their white-collar jobs and really don’t care. Die yuppie scum!!!
